In a dense forest there lived a hare, who could run very fast, and a tortoise, who walked very slowly. The hare was very proud of his speed and often made fun of the tortoise.
One day the tortoise challenged the hare to a race. As soon as the race began, the hare raced far ahead. He was certain the tortoise could never beat him, so he lay down to rest under a tree along the way — and before he knew it, he had fallen fast asleep.
Meanwhile the tortoise kept going without stopping — slowly, but steadily. By the time the hare woke up, the tortoise had almost reached the finish line. The hare ran with all his might, but by then it was far too late: the tortoise had won the race.
The lesson
Pride always bears bitter fruit. Success comes only through steady effort, patience and resolve. We should never think less of anyone because of their ability or their pace. Whoever works towards their goal without stopping will certainly succeed in the end. Self-confidence is good, but arrogance can become an obstacle to success. This story inspires us to stay humble and to keep making a continuous effort.
खरगोश और कछुआ
एक घने जंगल में एक बहुत तेज़ दौड़ने वाला खरगोश और एक धीरे-धीरे चलने वाला कछुआ रहते थे। खरगोश को अपनी तेज़ रफ़्तार पर बहुत घमंड था। वह अक्सर कछुए का मज़ाक उड़ाता था।
एक दिन कछुए ने खरगोश को दौड़ की चुनौती दी। दौड़ शुरू होते ही खरगोश बहुत आगे निकल गया। उसे विश्वास था कि कछुआ कभी उसे नहीं हरा सकता। इसलिए वह रास्ते में एक पेड़ के नीचे आराम करने के लिए लेट गया और देखते-देखते गहरी नींद में सो गया।
उधर कछुआ बिना रुके, धीरे-धीरे लेकिन लगातार आगे बढ़ता रहा। जब खरगोश की नींद खुली, तब तक कछुआ अंतिम रेखा के बहुत करीब पहुँच चुका था। खरगोश पूरी ताकत से दौड़ा, लेकिन तब तक बहुत देर हो चुकी थी। कछुआ दौड़ जीत चुका था।
नैतिक शिक्षा
घमंड का फल हमेशा बुरा होता है। लगातार मेहनत, धैर्य और संकल्प से ही सफलता प्राप्त होती है। हमें कभी भी किसी को उसकी क्षमता या गति के आधार पर कम नहीं समझना चाहिए। जो व्यक्ति बिना रुके अपने लक्ष्य की ओर मेहनत करता है, वह अंत में अवश्य सफल होता है। आत्मविश्वास अच्छा है, लेकिन अहंकार सफलता में बाधा बन सकता है। यह कहानी हमें विनम्र रहने और निरंतर प्रयास करते रहने की प्रेरणा देती है।
